Computer Upgrades

When I came home to eat last night at 6pm, I noticed there was a small box in the yard that ahd not been there when i had left for work. It was my RAM! From the violently strong winds we had yesterday, it must have totally blown off of the porch. Needless to say, when I got home at 10:15pm, I immediately went into the computer room and installed it.

It works like a charm!

From what I had been reading I could expect to see about a 50% increase in application speed. I would have to say that is pretty acccurate as things now load up and navigate a lot better. So, right now the only 2 bottlenecks I really have on my system is my processor (Intel Celeron 2.6gHz) and my internet connection (dial-up). I hope to remedy the processor situation by the time I get married, and as for the broadband….there’s really no set date for that.

Since I have more RAM to do things with my system screaming at me, I decided to play for a bit. I did play Doom 3 last night for about 2 minutes and it was a lot smoother then it ever was. That made me most happy. After that went to play Guild Wars. It needed to dowload some update files, and by the time it got done with that, I was honestly too tired to play. So, I went to bed. We’ll see how I faire tonight since I am off tomorrow, and maybe get in some GW action when I come home.

The one thing I did install this morning was something I found a while ago online called Flyakite OSX. It’s basically a shell/skin replacement for Windows XP emulates the OSX experience. I just got done installing it about 10 minutes ago, and it seems pretty nice so far. Here’s a screen cap from my main monitor.

I want to do some more tweaking of it, but it seems pretty kick ass from the get-go. I just laoded up Trillian Pro and it even installed a nice OSX skin for that as well. It’ll take a few days to sell me on the whole package.

Well, it looks like it’s about time to get ready to go to work again. Another fun night in the Land of Retail. Later….
