A Proper Start

Today is the first day of my 3rd vacation of 2010. I took this week off to prep for Jackson’s first birthday party on Saturday. True, while I didn’t need to take off a full week, having a week off in the middle of October just seemed like a great idea by itself.

The last 2 days of work before vacation were truly hell. No one in the store (associate wise), no unload crews foe out LPD trucks so I had to help unload both nights, an overwhelming amount of work that needed to be done with no time or help to do it, and to top it all off a tongue lashing at our staff meeting on Tuesday about how we’re not getting everything done we’re supposed to. Let’s just say that when I left work last night at 11pm the passion for my job was gone. I did not care, and right now, still don’t care. I delegated all of my work for the next week and put certain safeguards in place so that if the work isn’t done when I come back I won’t be the one in the shit for it. In other words, I left this crappy week behind me, and when I return next Wednesday, it should be a fresh start. That again, is assuming that my boss can do his job and we all know that this is seriously not the case. I’m sure that just like every other vacation I’m going to walk into a world of shit next week but I will be returning with a new attitude. I’m done being the nice guy. In 7 days time, I’m coming back and going to be in 100% boss mode. No more being nice and letting people slide a bit here and there. My world will now be black & white. You either did your work or you didn’t. This is something I should have done a long time ago.

So how have I spent my first few hours of vacation? Exactly how I wanted to actually! When I came home everyone was asleep. So I grabbed a snack and watched a little Top Gear. After that, I grabbed my laptop, threw ‘Star Trek: First Contact‘ in the PS3 and did some coding. Once the movie was finished around 3am, I threw in ‘Star Trek: Generations‘ and fell asleep on the couch watching it. This was around 4am or so. My wife woke me up around 7am, and I shuffled into bed with her. I slept there totally undisturbed until the awesome hour of noon.

Yes people, I stayed up until 4am watching Star Trek and then slept until noon. Now THAT is the proper start of a 7 day vacation!
