Sick

Jack has been sick since last Thursday. He was so sick in fact that I kept him home from school on both Thursday and Friday. He remained sick most of the weekend, but much better then he was when he missed school. He started to get sick again on Tuesday, but we’ve been pumping him full of medicine again and it seems to be working. But now it appears that I am sick.

I woke up this morning with a sore throat and some serious congestion. I should have known something was up there. I trudged thru the day, but ended up crashing for about an hour when Addy when down for her nap. I felt okay for the rest of the day, but still slightly off. I went to work and didn’t think twice about it.

While at work I was simply walking around putting stuff away and I was sweating bullets…and I was cold. Yep, I was running a fever. Then I got that rumble in your tummy where you get to the nearest bathroom as fast as you can. I’m not going to go into details, but let’s just say I was stuck there for almost 25 minutes. Afterwards, my body started to ache and my stomach was royally upset. Since stay at home dads don’t get sick days, I needed to head this off as quickly as I could. I went and told my boss that I was sick and that I needed to go home. He wasn’t happy and asked me if there was any way I could stay. I told him I could stay but I would certainly not be at 100% and couldn’t guarantee that I would not be running back and forth to the bathroom. Mulling it over, he finally told me that he needed me at 100% and told me to go home and rest up. I left the store and made a b-line for Target. There, I bought the strongest medicine I could find.

So I sit here, first dose of meds in me, wearing a t-shirt, pajama pants, socks, and a hoodie and I’m still cold. Keep in mind it’s still 60º outside. Yeah, I’m sick. Sadly Jess is still at rehearsal and the kids with my parents. I would normally have gone and gotten the kids that way Jess wouldn’t have to, but she has Addy’s car seat so that’s a no go. So I get to sit here in an empty house and rest up a bit before they all come home. Maybe that’s not such a bad thing after all.
