Vintage Finds

I took the entire weekend off (Fri., Sat., & Sun.) to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary with Jess. My parents watched the kids yesterday and kept them overnight so we had 24 hours all to ourselves. We had a blast! We went out for lunch yesterday, went around shopping at some thrift stores for antiques and vintage finds, and went out to dinner for some Thai food. We then went home and watched TV until almost midnight. A very good day indeed.

This morning we woke up a bit on the early side since we wanted to go to an indoor flea market in Eynon, Pa.. We had been there years ago when Jack was little, but it was hard to look around with him since he was bored and getting into everything. Since we didn’t have to pick up the kids until the afternoon, we decided to go for breakfast at The Waffle House and then go to the flea market. After a few hours of looking around, I ended up finding a vintage toy dealer. Even though I had looked at several video game vendors, and even a vendor with a fully working Golden Axe arcade machine, I had held off spending any money. Well, that was about to change once I started to look in their display cases. In the end, I haggled a bit with the guy and got 2 vintage toys and one modern toy for a very good price.

So what are these toys I had to have? The first one on the left is a G1 (original 1980s) Transformer named Huffer. He was the very first Transformer I ever owned. I no longer have him as he broke many, many years ago. Not only did they have one in great condition, but he even came with the specification cut-out sheet from the back of the packaging!

The middle one is an Optimus Prime obviously. He’s a modern figure made by a company called ‘The Loyal Subjects’. He is fully articulated and even talks. Even though he’s not vintage, I totally had to have him for my Optimus Prime shelf above my computer.

The last figure on the right is Winston Zeddemore from ‘The Real Ghostbusters’. While I did have all of the ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ figures back in the day, I never had the original ones. I had the next series in which every character had their own unique weapon. This one is the original version that comes with a proton pack. I always wanted to have this version of these figures and being in excellent condition, I again couldn’t pass up.

I almost bought a small die-cast Voltron figure, but it was in pretty bad shape for the price they were asking. There were a lot more toys there that I wanted and I think we’ll be taking another ride up there someday to procure some more. For now though, I need to make room on the shelf above my computer for my new friends.
