A Throw-Away Day

Today is what I consider a throw-away day.

I could not sleep last night due to my extreme congestion. No matter what I did I just could not breathe last night. I tossed and turned all night until I finally got out of bed at 5 am. I had had enough and was desperate to breathe.

I went into the bathroom and ran the hot tap on the tub. I was hoping to get some good steam going so I could blow out whatever was keeping the air from entering my nose. After having the tub on for a few minutes, I realized that this would take a while and I was Mr. Impatient at this point. I shut off the tub and turned on the hot water on the sink. Again there as not enough instant steam action for my liking. Since I was out of options, I was forced to do something that I hate doing and my wife begs me to do every time I get sick — irrigate my nose.

I grabbed the bottle of Ocean Saline Nasal Spray that she bought me weeks ago but refused to use. I hate sucking up liquid into my nasal cavities, but I really was desperate at this point. I took off the safety seal, removed the cap, and placed the tip into my right nostril. I squeezed the bottle as hard as I could and deeply inhaled. The solution was sucked up into my nasal cavity and burned like hell. I pull the bottle from my nose and the saline solution started dripping out like mad. I grabbed a nearby tissue and blew my nose. Let’s just say what came out was criminal. I proceeded to perform the same act on my left nostril. Again, what came out of my left nostril was just as criminal as it was with my right nostril. Finally being able to breathe, I headed back to bed, where I was able to sleep for almost 3 hours until my alarm went off.

When my alarm went off at 8 am, I was in no mood to get up, so I laid there for a little while. After a little while, I head Jackson wake up. I punished myself by getting out of bed and headed to his room. After having our usual morning conversation, he asked if he could play with daddy’s iPad today. Since he has been banned from iPads for the past few weeks due to him throwing Jess’s iPad and breaking the screen, he has been in iPad withdrawal. Since I was so tired I could barely stand, I agreed and we headed into the living room. I gave him the iPad, made up breakfast, and took my meds. After breakfast, I told Jack I needed to lay down a little bit on the couch. This was around 10:30 am or so.

I woke up at 1:45 pm.

What little plans I had for the day were quickly evaporated. That was okay though, since I did not have any grandiose plans to begin with. In fact, it 3:30 pm right now and we are still in our pajamas. Do I really care? No. Should I really care? No. You nice a nice little throw-away day every one and a while.
