Weekends And Time Traveling

This past weekend was one of the best that I could remember in a long time.

I’m trying to remember what we did on Friday night, but for the life of me I cannot remember. So for the sake of argument, I’m going to say that we had an awesome dinner and spent the night together. Wait…I remember now. I brought out the porch furniture and we spent the night outside working on that.

Saturday was a most interesting day. I ended up riding the couch after recording Growing Up Geek because my wife and the dogs were occupying about 90% of the bed and I just didn’t feel like fighting. I ended up watching TV until a little after 4am and finally fell asleep. My wife woke me up in the morning around 9:30am and I asked her to let me sleep in for a little while longer. When I finally woke up a little after 11:00am, I could not find her or Jack. I went into our bedroom and there was my wife passed out on the bed and Jack playing Minecraft on her iPhone. I was able to get out of that she was exhausted before she fell back into unconsciousness. I hopped into the shower, got dressed, got Jack dressed and made us lunch. After all of that my wife was still asleep. So after a little while Jack asked if we could play ing the backyard with the squirt guns. I got changed into some short and we headed out. I dragged the garden hose from the side yard to the backyard so we had easy access to fill up the guns. After about 15 minutes of using the guns, Jack decided that he wanted to trade up from the squirt gun to the hose. For the next 45 minutes we ran around the backyard drenching each other with the hose. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had that much fun with my son. It was one of those things that I will remember for a long time.

Sunday came with sunshine and warm weather. We had a slow morning but when noon came, we all got showered and dressed up — we were headed to Meghan Mullen’s First Holy Communion party. It was really great to hang out with everyone and enjoy some good food. After we got home it was Jess’s turn to go out and play with the squirt guns while I sat out in the sun and did some reading on my iPad. After the sun went down my wife sewed while Jack and I enjoyed some Doctor Who. The weekend then came to a close once we put Jack down to bed and my wife following him shortly.

So what have I been doing since then given that it’s 1:14am? The question is easy and yet complicated. I wanted to download some photos from my phone and get some that Jess emailed to me and post them online. Well…once I got into iPhoto I ended up looking at picture after picture. Before I knew it, 2 hours had passed.

Going through the pictures was like going back in time. I was able to see what life was like before I met Jess, what life was like when I met her and shortly there after. I was able to watch and see us move in together, get engaged, and eventually married. In what seemed to be a breath later she was pregnant and Jackson was in our life. (in reality, 4 years had passed from marriage to birth) This is something I catch myself doing every few months. When you look back in time like that you tend to remember the really good times, remember the rough times, and even the down right shitty times. You see things that make you happy, things that make you cry, and things that you can’t help but giggle about. And of course, you have those pictures that make you mad. Maybe’s it’s a bad time of your life, or just a situation you’d rather forget. Like it or not, ust like the good times, these bad times have affected your like and has made it was it is today.

I think that’s enough reminiscing for one night. It’s 1:20am and I’ve got to get my ass to bed. Later…
