The Matrix

This week’s Growing Up Geek episode is entitled ‘Morpheus’ due to the revealing of Son’y new VR unit for the PS4, code named ‘Project Morpheus’. I used a clip from ‘The Matrix’ of Agent Smith saying the word Morpheus as part of the title sequence. This made me nostalgic, and demanded I sit down and watch ‘The Matrix’, one of my Top 10 favorite movies, and one that I cannot remember watching in quite some time.

So far I’ve watched it twice in the past 24 hours.

Watching it automatically took eve back to 1999 and how blown away I was with the movie. After hearing about the movie back in 1998, I avoiding as much new as I could about it. Really the only thing that I watched over and over was its now legendary Super Bowl commercial. I really wanted to see the movie but I didn’t want the experience reined before I got there. I’m really glad that I made that decision since I left the theater totally blown away. I went out right after that, bought the soundtrack (which I still listen to this day) and saw it two more times during its theatrical run. I also vividly remember being sick after I accidentally poisoned myself before going to see it for the second time. But that’s a whole other ball of wax.

As far as I am concerned, just like ‘Highlander’, there is only one Matrix film. Sure, there are ‘sequels’, but they are so inferior that I barely count them. The only thing that I count as somewhat of a equal is ‘The Animatrix’.

What I am really impressed with is how much the movie still holds up 15 years later. Not only does the story still totally hold up, but like “jurassic Park’, the effects are still first rate 15 years after release. Very few films can attest to that.

Now the only question is should I watch it a third time. If I do, maybe I’ll go all out and watch the 10th Anniversary Blu-ray copy.
