Making Things

I’ve made a decision to do a little making this year. There are projects that I have wanted to start for literally 15+ years but have never found the time to do so. This year I am going to attempt to start a few of them. Yes, some of them might take a weekend or two to finish, while others may require years — yes, years. In fact, the one project I really want to take on has an average build time of 1-3 years.

Now the one commitment I have made to myself is that if I start a project, I am going to do it for fun — that means trying not to get so caught up in it to the point that it’s becomes more of a chore then a fun experience. I’ll be working on it when I can and when I feel like it. I may work on it for 2 days in a row, and then not touch it for a month if I’m not feeling like it. These are projects that I have been wanting to take on but not projects that NEED to be done for any reason. It’s not like when I re-did the bathroom a few months ago. That’s a project that once you start you needed to see it through to the end as soon as possible since it can be argued that the bathroom is the most important room in the house. Plus I am not going to get upset if I never finish any of these projects. There is no set timeline for any of these.

Another things is that I will make every attempt, even though I know I’m going to fail at this most times, to not become totally obsessed with the build. I need to space out my build times and not be focused on it 24/7. I know with my OCD and Asperger’s it’s going to be difficult, but I’m going to make every effort to try and walk away every once and a while. So let’s get to downloading some plans and see where this takes us!
