Prodding And Poking

After staying up past 2am last night working on the last of the code for the revival of the ‘blue-site’, I went to bed on a geek high. I woke up still pleased with myself, and by the time I got back onto the computer, I felt rather cocky. After looking at the recreation of the site I did a while ago (part of a personal project) I noticed a few things I could add back into this 2.0 version to really make it feel like the original. However, due to the limitations of the base theme and WordPress itself, I knew that this was going to be a challenge. The section that I wanted to recreate and add in were the sections below the header but above the posts.

Knowing I had to be creative, I started exploring my options. In the end, all I was able to recreate was the ‘The World According To Twev’ banner. Given that the original section was comprised entirely of tables written in Microsoft FrontPage, there was no easy way to recreate that in the WordPress theme. Now I’m not saying that it’s not possible, I’m just saying that it’s a project that I could work on when I feel really ambitious again. Considering it took me about an hour to figure out where to manually inject the PHP into the proper files, and then another 45 minutes trying to figure out why I could only see the changes while I was logged into the site (a caching plugin was preventing outside viewers to totally purge their browser cache of the site) I am simply not up to the challenge today. However, with that being said, I did discover a way to make it pretty much happen without too much coding. And by not too much, I mean that it’s still going to take some kung-fu to make it all happen. But as the great Alton Brown says, ‘…but that’s another show’.
