I’m Chevy Chase, And You’re Not

So, with our weekend coming to a close, I have to say it was a very good one. We got to hang out some great friends, put together a DVD storage unit (sadly, it was outgrown as soon as it was stocked), and ate some most excellent food.

Today after Kelly left Jess and I hung out for a little while and then decided to go out for a quick slice of pizza at a new place that opened up about 2 months ago. Surprisingly, it was closed. This makes the 2nd restaurant in the past 3 weeks that I when I pulled up to it, had closed for business. I’m convinced that either I am cursed or God hates me. I’ll have to get back to you on that one.

Anyway, seeing that the restaurant was closed and I was still craving some pizza, we decided to head over to Antonio’s over on the west side of town. We haven’t been there in a few months and they have great hoagies. Jess decided to indulge in a roast beef hoagie while I stuck to the basics and got a slice of plain and a slice of chicken wing pizza. It was most excellent. After eats, we decided to go to the grocery store for some materials for lunches this week.

This is where I should know better. You never just ‘go for a few things’ when you go with your wife. Needless to say 45 minutes and $120 later we were on our way home. On the plus side, I did get meats of varying flavor for some hoagies this week. In fact, there are two hoagies sitting in my fridge right now that I hope to be enjoying in about 11 hours.

Speaking of which, it is with a heavy heart that I must report that I will be returning to work tomorrow. As much fun as it was to have 4 days off in a row I must go back to the hamster wheel that is retail. On the bright side, I have this coming weekend off with Jess again. We’re going to try and take in ‘I Am Legend’ on Tuesday evening, ‘Cloverfield’ this Saturday afternoon, and then head back to the motherland of New Jersey on Sunday for Jenn’s birthday party. I know it sound pretty busy but it actually won’t be that bad. Hell, that’s only about 1/2 the stuff we did this weekend. The only bummer is that after this weekend it will be at least another month until Jess and I are off the same weekend again. But, as always, we will manage.

This past Friday, I ‘acquired’ the first season of the ShowTime series ‘Californication’. I had seen some previews for it, and it looked interesting. It stars David Duchovny, and as anyone will tell you, I am a huge X-Files fan. So, at about 10:30 tonight, Jess and I decided to sit down and watch the pilot episode. Let’s just say that this is now officially one of my favorite shows. David Duchovny plays what I cam only describe as my own personal hero. I’m not going to ruin anything for you, but I urge you to head over to the iTunes store and lay down $2 and check out the pilot. If you’ve got any taste at all, you’ll download the rest of that sucker and enjoy it like we are. We ended up watching the next 2 episodes before we decided we’d better head to bed since I have work at 6am. Obviously by the time-stamp on the post, I am not tired at all and am trying to tire myself out. The reason I’m not tired is that I want to stay up and watch the rest of that show. The writing and acting is just brilliant.

But, more episodes will have to wait for another night. As it is right now, if I fall asleep in the next 8 minutes (fat chance!) I will theoretically have the opportunity to sleep for about 4 1/2 hours. Yeah, I’m going to be dragging ass tomorrow. But, I don’t go in until 9am the rest of the week so I get to sleep in a bit for the rest of the week. For now, it’s off to dreamland. I can only pray I dream of nuns…
